Chicago Youth Programs Making A Difference

Ne’ke’s Theater Company is a non-profit organization serving urban communities and the youth, and focusing on the importance of teaching education through theatrical productions. They worked with Rainbow PUSH Coalition to create the Youth Together We Can talent show on Saturday July, 28, 2012 in Chicago.

It was a success for the youth, and it moved me to see how the children were involved and engaged. They were passionate with an amped work ethic! There was a host of great talent featuring singing, dancing, rapping, acting and poetry. The atmosphere was filled with a good spirit and it was great to see the children acknowledge God in their work.

Marques Kilgaire, twelve years old, performed a recital of rapper DMX, “Lord Give Me A Sign.” The winner of the night, 11 year old Zaporah Prince, showcased her play, “Little Orphan Angie.” in which she wrote, directed and produced. She will perform it live on September 1, 2012 in Oak View Center, Oak Lawn, IL.

I was glad to see how much energy and life was in the building from the children. I am a firm believer that if they express interest in something, you should encourage and cultivate them for success! Even if they change their interest and pursue other options, they are still on the right on track. It was enlightening to know the kids were doing something good, and not being claimed by the gangs and violence in Chicago.
