In the Chicago Bears season opener against rookie quarterback Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago were off to a slow start on their first drive with a sack, followed by a false start penalty, then an interception returned on the Bears own 5 for a touchdown by Colts, Jerrell Freeman.

The Bears warmed up later in the first quarter as they gained their first touchdown run from Michael Bush, making his first season with the Bears. After a 7-7 first quarter closing, the Bears moved the ball and got some nice yardage from running back, Matt Forte. His big run placed the Bears in good field position at the Colts own 2, setting up their second touchdown with Jay Cutler connecting with his former Denver Bronco teammate, Brandon Marshall. Cutler seemed to get more comfortable with his other receivers when he connected with rookie receiver, Alshon Jeffrey, making his first reception of 17 yards during mid second quarter.

Colts came up big with 2 big runs ending in a touchdown from running back, Donald Brown, bringing the score to 17-14 Bears lead with about 3:17 remaining in second quarter. Bears receiver Eric Bennett almost came up with his first touchdown of the game, but it was reviewed as the ball came out on the one and half yard line in the end zone. Michael Bush pulled away with his second touchdown after the previous play was retracted under review, bringing the Bears to a ten point 24-14 lead at halftime.

Andrew Luck was 4 for 5 on a drive with 59 yards in the final 44 seconds of the second quarter, but couldn’t complete for a touchdown. Settling for a field goal to trim the lead by 7, Colts veteran kicker Adam Vinateri missed the opportunity for 3 points.

Bears were well on their way to a blowout after Matt Forte kicked off the second half with a touchdown run, giving his team a 31.14 lead, and Colts fumbling the kickoff return thereafter. After a long scoreless fourth quarter, the Colts were able to record another touchdown, but it wasn’t enough after Jay Cutler found Alshon Jeffrey on the long TD pass.

The Bears wrapped up a strong season start with a 41-21 victory, and will travel to Green Bay to meet their rival Packers on Thursday Night Football, September 13th in Lambeau Field.
