Calvin Johnson: NO TD Receptions From Stafford For Season, Big in Lions WIn

“After review of the play, the call is reversed. It is a catch": The play and official ruling that kept the Lions alive. Matthew Stafford connected with Calvin Johnson on a crucial third down conversion that would have been Detroit's final drive of the game. Originally ruled 'out,' he did what a receiver does; two feet in bounds, and maintain possession.

The fate of the game came to who capitalized on opportunities. It started as a game of both teams taking turns with the ball. They either couldn’t convert downs, or there were turnovers. It didn’t matter that this was Calvin Johnson’s fifth game this season without a touchdown reception from Matthew Stafford. CJ, however did catch a TD from QB, Shaun Hill in a week 3 OT loss to Tennessee Titans. He had 6 catches for 135 yards in yesterday's win, and it was more than enough to help his team win.

Philadelphia Eagles Michael Vick made his sixth fumble of the season on what appeared to be a miscommunication at the line of scrimmage on the snap. He passed for 311 yards with 59 on the ground. Detroit gave it right back with an interception. What looked to be Matthew Stafford’s attempt to connect with Calvin Johnson for his first touchdown catch of the season, resulted in the first interception of the season by Philadelphia Eagles Nnamdi Asomugha.

The Eagles did not ‘monetize’ the interception to put money on the board. Mike Vick was under constant pressure from the start of the game, and threw an interception with 8:20 remaining in the second. They were scoreless until about 1:16 remaining in the first half. A pass interference penalty on Detroit with 1:25 remaining placed the Eagles at the goal line and set them up for the 11-yard touchdown pass to Lesean McCoy.

The Lions were down 13-6 at the start of the fourth. After Michael Vick’s 70 yard TD pass to Jeremy Macklin, the Eagles couldn’t keep up with the Lions roaring offense as they registered two TD passes from Stafford, including Nate Burleson’s catch in the mid of the fourth. That led them to trail 23-20 with a field goal following to force overtime.

No one capitalized on turnovers until it was the kickoff return fumbled in overtime on the Eagles recovered by the Lions. Detroit closed this out with a game winning field goal. This is one to go down in the books of classic NFL games.
