New York Jets: Start Tebow or Sanchez?

The New York Jets are probably one of the top scrutinized teams in the NFL for the 2012 season. There has been rising talk and questions about Tim Tebow replacing Mark Sanchez in starting at the quarterback position. According to the stats as of week 5, the Jets are 28th overall of all 32 teams in total yards per game.

It was visible in the Jets Monday Night loss to undefeated Houstan Texans that New York Jets struggled to move the ball, and Sanchez had some issues not completing to his receivers and getting out of the pocket under pressure. The Texans defense appeared to have Sanchez off balance and unable to focus or set up for a solid pass.

Jets coach Rex Ryan mixed Tebow into the offense for a few plays resulting in first down yardage on at least 2 out of 3 plays. Tebow was able to get the first down on a fake field goal on 4th and inches and another 1st down run late in the second quarter that set the Jets at the goal line. Sanchez was back in the game after NYJ moved forward, but he threw a costly interception just before halftime at the goal line where Tebow had positioned the team. The Jets are currently using Mark Sanchez just as Philadelphia Eagles were using Michael Vick behind Donovan McNabb when Vick returned to football in the 2009 season.

The Jets are currently a 2-3 football club, 5 weeks into the season. It wouldn't hurt to start Tim Tebow in week 6, and make adjustments and assessments accordingly.
