Thursday Night Football Week 7 NFC West Clash: 49ers, Seahawks
We are in another exciting week of Thursday Night Football.
Tonight’s matchup features a NFC West clash with the Seattle Seahawks visiting
the San Francisco 49ers. Both teams are coming off of emotional week 6 games
with the Seahawks gaining a victory over the New England Patriots, and the
49ers bouncing back from a loss to the New York Giants.
Seahawks cornerback, Richard Sherman, made news this week
following his trash talk during the game towards quarterback Tom Brady (NE),
and his comments to NFL Network after their win. Sherman made it a point to get
the message to Brady. He stated, “I don’t get a chance to talk to y’all. NFL
Network, tell Tom Brady what I said. He is one man! We are a team. He is only
one person. He has the “Brady Bunch.” NFL Network’s Steve Marucci interviewed
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll about his comments. Pete Carroll in no ways
discouraged it. He appeared to have no problem with it and said that he like
his team to have this kind of energy.
The 49ers, who are leading the NFL in rushing yards per
game, were not able to run effectively last week versus the Giants. Running
back Frank Gore only had 8 carries for 36 yards. Their running game will be a
huge factor in tonight’s game. Last week’s loss to NYG proves that the numbers
doesn’t really matter. It’s all about the performance in that game.
SF went into week 6 with an average of 5.4 yards per carry,
but the numbers were reversed at 4.5 yards per carry in the week 6 loss. They also
allowed more yards than their season average. With this being said, what kind
of offensive scheme will the Seahawks present the 49ers defense tonight? I tweeted
@NFLN_Playbook, “Who has the best front four in the NFC?” They said, “San
Francisco, hands down.”
The Seahawks have allowed 294.7 yards through 6 weeks of
football, about 19 less than the 49ers. Seahawks are ranked number 24 at
espn.com in offensive YPG behind the 49ers (#4) at 387 YPG.
Rookie quarterback, Russell Wilson (SEA), along with coach,
Pete Carroll and Seahawks faculty confidence is ‘through the roof’ for tonight,
after defeating the ‘Brady Bunch.’ They also closed out the half strong,
holding the Patriots to just 6 second half points. The 49ers are scoreless in
the last three quarters of football, after only scoring 3 points in the first
quarter, and their total for the game versus NYG.
Coach Jim Harbaugh and his 49ers will be trying to avoid a
two game losing streak tonight and advance in the NFC West, while Pete Carroll
and the Seahawks are amped and looking for a three game winning streak and the
same hopes of taking charge in the NFC West.
Tune in for the action tonight on NFL Network at 8pm EST!
