What an abundance of action to come in week 6 of NFL
football! The NFC best in the west, San Francisco 49ers (4-1), host the NFC
East reigning champions, New York Giants (3-2). San Francisco is only in second
place in their division behind the Arizona Cardinals (4-1) because they haven’t
played a division game yet. Their first division game will be on Thursday Night
Football October 18, hosting the Seattle Seahawks (3-2).
Sunday’s week 6 matchup featuring the 49ers and Giants boils
down to the numbers. The 49ers are better defensively, allowing 262.6 yards per
game, while the Giants are allowing 372.8 total yards a game. Both teams’
running back numbers are close with Frank Gore (SF) averaging 5.4 yards per
carry, while Ahmad Bradshaw (NYG) averages 5.1 yards per carry. Frank Gore will
have the advantage in this matchup because his performances have showed that he
is more difficult than Ahmad Bradshaw for defenses to stop.
49ers quarterback Alex Smith has a better QB rating (108.7)
than his opponent Eli Manning (96.0), but Eli will have the advantage in this
battle due to his experience and ability to maintain and comeback in the second
half. The Giants are known to make halftime adjustments and make comebacks to
seal the victory.
New York is coming off a one game winning streak versus the
Cleveland Browns (0-5), while San Francisco are on a hot two game winning streak,
which includes a demanding 45-3 victory last week versus Buffalo Bills (2-3).
The deciding factor in this game will be momentum, defense,
rushing attack, and quarterback protection. Anything can happen on Sunday, but
according to the stats, the 49ers will win this matchup because they are a
better defensive and rushing team. Frank Gore will be able to move the ball
creating opportunities to open up the passing game for the 49ers. It’s a close
call.
The 49ers only loss came in week 3 from Minnesota Vikings
(4-1), who are first in the NFC North. The Giants losses were in week 1 versus
their division, Dallas Cowboys (2-2), and a close game by two points at the
Philadelphia Eagles in week 4.
Who will win week 6? There is only one way to find out.
Regulation will tell it all on Sunday 10/14 at San Francisco in Candlestick
Park.
