Week 9 Monday Night Football: Eagles at Saints

Two trips to the red zone for the Eagles late in the first quarter and early in the second resulted in no touchdown scores. Mike Vick threw an interception on the first time in the red zone at the goal line, and it was returned 99 yards for a touchdown by Saints cornerback, Patrick Robinson. This was Vick's 14th turnover of the season, 9 INT's and 5 fumbles lost. He is responsible for 14 of the Eagles turovers this year.

After their second appearance in the red zone, they could not convert on third down and kicked a field goal for their first three points of the game. The Saints ran the ball very effectively on the next drive and scored their second touchdown with a run by Chris Ivory. The Eagles next drive failed with 5:07 remaining in the second. Despite 200+ rushing yards in the first half they could not score a touchdown. The defense was out of sync as Drew Brees aired it out for over 100 yards and his backfield also rushed for 100+ yards in the first half. Brees connected with Marques Colston for the short 3 yard touchdown pass with under two minutes in the first half. He also extended his NFL record making this his 51st consecutive game with a TD pass

The Eagles one of final attempts to score a touchdown was before the half and ended with a punt. New Orleans led 21-3 at halftime. .

Philadelphia made a better offensive and defensive effort in the second half when Graham sacked Drew Brees and recovered the fumble he forced on the sack. Mike Vick was able to find Desean Jackson on 2nd and 4 for a 77 yard touchdown pass. This was the Eagles last touchdown of the game. They scored another field goal shortly after.

The Saints answered back when Drew Brees threw another touchdown pass for 6 yards to Jimmy Graham with about 7:00 remaining in the 3rd. Both teams went scoreless in the fourth.

Saints marched away with a 28-13 victory. They are both now 3-5. Saints are 3rd in NFC South, Eagles 2nd in NFC East.

The Eagles have plenty of room for improvement. Their problems appear to be at the offensive line, secondary, playcalling, and Vick's turnovers.
