Chicago Bears 2013 Schedule Analysis
The 2013 NFL Schedule Release is in! The Chicago Bears will
begin their first season with new coach, Marc Trestman. The Bears failed to
reach the playoffs in the 2012 season.
Both halves of their schedule are equally, fiercely competitive.
Some highlights include a trip to the Washington Redskins in week 7 (1st
half), and a home game against the champion, Baltimore Ravens in week 11 (2nd
half).
First Half Under the Scope:
None of the Bears first 7 games of the season are a
cakewalk. They will open their season hosting the Cincinnati Bengals, who were
a 2012 AFC Wild Card playoff contender.
Week 2 is a divisional game with Minnesota Vikings. Like any
divisional matchup, this will be critical because the records can be close when
they meet again in week 13, just four weeks before the end of regular season, while the playoff brackets will be shaping up around that time.
Chicago will meet Big Ben and the Pittsburgh Steelers in week
3. Chicago won the last meeting when the Steelers traveled their in 2009.
Bears wide receiver Johnny Knox was a rookie and he had an outstanding
performance versus Pittsburgh in the Bears win. He had a bright future and it
was unfortunate the injury that ended his career in late 2011. The Bears terminated his contract
on Tuesday 4/16/13. Knox is keeping a positive outlook on his future according
to this article.
Weeks 4-7 will be condensed with tough challenges beginning
with another divisional road game against Detroit Lions. Detroit has made some
key offseason roster changes.
The New Orleans Saints, who turned their 2012 season around
and finished strong, will travel to Soldier Field in week 5. This will be a key
matchup.
Weeks 6 and 7 are back to back NFC East matchups beginning
with 3-time champion New York Giants meeting the Bears in Chicago for Thursday
Night Football. Chicago will face RG3 and the Redskins following NYG.
:BYE WEEK: This
bye week (8) seems as if it will be a much needed rest for the Bears
considering their competition in the first half.
Second Half: It Doesn’t Get Any Sweeter
In week 9, The Bears will return from a week off just to
meet their rival Green Bay Packers, in Lambeau Field. The Bears and Green Bay
are always critical matchups. This game will be huge for both teams because
they will meet again for the final game of the season in week 17. Following
week 9, Chicago will have their second meeting with the Lions.
Week 11: The defending Super Bowl champions, Baltimore
Ravens will pay a visit to the Chicago Bears. Enough said!
Weeks 12, 14, 15, and 16 will be at St. Louis Rams, Monday
Night Football Versus the Dallas Cowboys, at Cleveland Browns, and at
Philadelphia Eagles. None of these four teams reached the 2012 playoffs. These
perhaps may be the lighter side of the 2013 schedule for Chicago Bears.
