Bears: 1 of 7 teams Undefeated Through Week 3. Week 4 Preview Vs. Detroit Lions
@nategrayzone
Chicago and Detroit finished in the bottom two of the NFC North division in 2012. The Lions who recently just about became the Bears newest rival has made improvements and some key roster additions for the 2013 season.
The Chicago Bears, under the Marc Trestman era, are one of the five NFL teams with a 3-0 record through week 3. The Lions are 2-1, which includes a week one divisional win over Minnesota Vikings. The Bears can rack up some early divisional wins with a victory at Detroit on Sunday after too defeating the Vikings (0-3, last in NFC North) in week two. The divisional wins will come in handy later through the second half of the season.
One thing for certain about the Bears, their offense is running smoothly like fresh new clean oil through a car's engine.
Few examples to highlight this improvement:
17 first quarter points at their recent opponent Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh was thirsty for their first win but got Bear mauled!
Production in the red zone and goal line specific situations resulting in higher touchdown scoring ratios.
More aggressive play execution and not waiting until the last minute to try scoring. In week two versus the Vikings, Chicago led a while before Minnesota pulled the near comeback victory, but Jay Cutler capped it off with a straight forward productive drive that launched the game winning touchdown pass.
-Those are just a few examples.
Chicago defense was a bit questionable through the first two weeks but they appeared to be pretty solid last week, including a Julius Peppers fumble recovery touchdown return. Peppers defensive effort was actually the turning point that killed Pittsburgh's comeback.
Running back Reggie Bush is one of the newly acquired Detroit Lions who led the highlights and stats for running backs in week one along with Matt Forte (CHI) and Adrian Peterson (MIN). It will be interesting to see how the Chicago defense fairs against him.
On Sunday 9/29/13, Chicago will be looking to remain undefeated, perfect in the NFC North division, and improve to 4-0, while Detroit are trying to improve to 3-1 and leverage their position in the division to remain ahead of Green Bay and Minnesota.
It will be close, @nategrayzone picks: Bears: 28 Lions: 24
