Marc Trestman, Bears Win in Week 1
@nategrayzone
The Mark Trestman era started with a first drive that was 3 and out, one Jay Cutler knockdown and surprisingly Cutlers first sets of passes were not thrown to His favorite Brandon Marshall but when he used the Marshall option, the Bears earned their first, first down of the game they were well into into the red zone after a Charles Tillman interception put them on the 35 yard line after the officials retracted the touchdown and ruled Tillman down by contact.
Unlike the prior Bears footnall seasons, it did not take long to score their first touchdown Jay Cutler connected with the Bears newest acquisition, tight end Martellus Bennett from New York Giants.
Boom! In less than three minutes the Bears registered their first points of the 2013 season.
Bengals receiver A.J Green put the Bengals on the board with two big receptions, of one a touchdown. He was responsible for the Bengals first 14 points. Cincinnati led 14-10 at the half The Bears were quiet since scoring their only 7 points for the first half.Their offense was questionable by the end of the first half. It was up to coach Mark Trestman to make adjustments.
The Bears defense appeared to fall apart right along with the offense. Quarterback Andy Dalton was effective through the air and the run game was more visible through the third quarter, giving Cincinnati a 21-10 lead.Matt Forte trimmed the gap a bit with his short TD run with 3:22 remaining in the third.
This was an opportunity for Chicago to take the lead, but a Jay Cutler interception in the fourth quarter changed things a bit. At this time, Andy Dalton was 24/30 on pass completion with 269 yards. The Bengals offense continued to run smoothly and almost made it look easy.
Tim Jennings saved Chicago with a fumble recovery. Brandon Marshall made a few big plays in the fourth to give the offense the break it needed. He put the Bears ahead 24-21 with his first touchdown reception of the game for 19 yards. The Bears had two drives of 80+ yards in the second half.
This was certainly the type of turnaround they needed and it was enough for Chicago to keep moving the ball in the Bengals own territory and seal the victory, 24-21.
Mar Trestman is 1-0 in his first season as the Bears head coach.
