Bears Lose Hope For Any Chances to Take NFC North After Falling 0-2 to Lions

@nategrayzone

Chicago Bears has blown their chances for any hopes to take charge of the NFC North at some point of the season. They fell 0-2 to their division opponent, Detroit Lions.

In the Bears and Lions season rematch, Chicago opened well with 5 plays, 62 yards, and a touchdown 2:23 into the game. This included 3 straight catches by Brandon Marshall, the third one was a touchdown.

On CHI first 3rd down drive, they converted on 3 and 6 by Brandon Marshall. Calvin Johnson likewise for Detroit converted them on 3rd and 2 in their first drive. Megatron also converted again on 3rd and 4. Stafford continued to find success with his receivers including Brandon Pettigrew until he connected with Kris Durham for their first touchdown of the game. It was tied 7-7 with 5:57 remaining in first quarter.

Both teams had 4th and 1 situations, neither converted, but Chicago’s Chris Conte batted a pass on Detroit’s 4th down conversion attempt.

Jay Cutler connected with Alshon Jeffery for multiple consecutive passes late in the second quarter, but the Bears failed to take the lead with a pass blocked by Suh and intercepted in the end zone on a loose ball on Detroit’s own goal line.

The score remained 7-7 at halftime.

The Lions opened the 3rd quarter with a drive of 5 plays, 66 yards and a Calvin Johnson 4 yard TD reception. Chicago was able to get 3 points out of a trip to the red zone after 2 failed pass attempts. On third down, they decided to hand off to Forte for a run of 8. Robbie Gould nailed the 25 yard field goal.

Chris Conte came up big with an interception about a quarter through the fourth and placed the Bears inside the 10 yard line. Matt Forte ran the touchdown in, but was called back by a holding on Chicago. A few plays later, Cutler connected with Jeffery for the touchdown, but that was also called back as the referees stated the receiver did not maintain full control of the ball. Robbie Gould came in for another 3 points.

The two plays that were called back were perhaps the most costly to Chicago.

Chicago defense was successful enough to stop Detroit from another touchdown score that led to a missed field goal kick by the Lions.

Josh McCown came in for the final two minutes, and helped Chicago score a touchdown, but they still needed 2 points to tie and force overtime. They failed to convert for two.

Detroit Lions took the win, 21-19.
