Author/Speaker Nate Gray: A Winning Perspective on former NBA Player Muggsy Bogues

I read this article about one of my favorite point guards in the NBA, Muggsy Bogues.

Man, this took me back to the early 90’s in my NBA Hoop Dream days when I was about 11 or 12 years old! This was my favorite Charlotte Hornets team of all time as Muggsy played with Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson, Dell Curry, Kendall Gill, and Johnny Newman.

There were some good points in this article as Bogues spoke of his height and how he got the name ‘Muggsy.’ As I was reading, I said, “That’s A Winning Perspective!”

A part of my message, ‘A Winning Perspective’ is all about having a positive mindset; how you choose to respond to your life challenges, learn from your experiences and make things work for you.

Along with Muggsy Bogues speaking about how he got the name, I really like the points about his height and challenges playing on the courts in his neighborhood, the Lafayette projects of Baltimore.

Bogues said, “Being short made me fearless as a player, set out to prove everyone wrong.”

This statement also made me think about the book, “Heart over Height,” by current NBA player Nate Robinson.

As Bogues spoke about how he got the name and didn’t know anything about “The Bowery Boys,” where people were adapting the name from, he said, “Muggsy caught on right away and at first I hated it. Inside, I was upset about it. I just kept on playing.”

A Winning Perspective here is that Muggsy never got discouraged or gave up. He kept pushing and landed himself a 14 year career in the NBA as the shortest player ever, at 5’3” to play in the game.
